The Bears handed Penn their first conference loss in three years, ending a remarkable 18-game streak and knocking them into a tie for 2nd at 3-1 in the league. Brown shutout Penn for the first time since 1965.
Mel Farr intercepted a Billy Ragone pass with 2 minutes left to seal a win that saw numerous turnovers due to cold, wet conditions.
Without starting running backs Kachmer and Spooney, out due to injury, Jeff Izon and Cody Taulbee showed gutty determination in grinding down the clock and hanging onto the football to close out the game.
Brown ends with a perfect October, the first since their Ivy Champion 2005 campaign. The Bear defense posted its second shutoutof the year (first time since 1985) and held Penn to 146 total yards. Dan Smithwick had 7 tackles a forced fumble and an interception and AJ Cruz added a pick and a fumble recovery.
